Most Unique Places to Stay in Washington (2025)
Booking unique places to stay in Washington is something a lot of travelers overlook. Sure, they make for cool photos, but for me, it’s more than that. It’s about the experience—taking a weekend with your closest friends, planning a romantic getaway, or heading to a mountain cabin with your dog.
These kinds of places turn an ordinary trip into something you’ll be talking about for years.
📍 High Hut Lookout (Tahoma) – Epic Fire Lookout
If you’re craving an overnight stay with unbeatable views, High Hut Lookout is about as good as it gets. Perched at 4,760 feet in the Tahoma State Forest, this old fire lookout requires a 5.5-mile moderate hike in, making it that much more worth it.
With Mount Rainier dominating the horizon and no city lights for miles, the night sky here is mesmerizing. There’s no running water or electricity, but you’ll find a wood stove, bunk space, stovetop, puzzles, and a book you can sign your name in or write a fun note.
High Hut has a maximum capacity of 8 people per night. Plus, it only costs $15 for the night!

📍Treehouse on the Water (Port Angeles) – Eagle’s Nest
Ever dreamed of waking up in a treehouse with the Strait of Juan de Fuca stretching out before you? This extra awesome stay in Port Angeles sits right above the water, which gives a mix of cozy cabin vibes and the pure nostalgia of being a kid again.
Start your morning on the deck, Kindle in hand, coffee in the other, listening to the waves crash while the world wakes up.
Port Angeles itself is worth the visit! It has a great little town, and if you love the outdoors, there are plenty of hiking trails nearby.

📍 Bryant Barn (Walla Walla) – Sleep Inside a Wine Barrel
Yes, this is exactly what it sounds like—an actual giant wine barrel converted into a cozy stay in Washington’s wine country. Located in Walla Walla, Bryant Barn is perfect for anyone who loves a good glass of Syrah with a side of quirky lodging.
The interior is surprisingly spacious and comfortable. Wake up with views of rolling vineyards, and for those over 21 years old, have a good wine-tasting day ahead.
📍 Heybrook Lookout (Gold Bar) – Fire Lookout With a View
If you’re up for a night in the woods with a view, Heybrook Lookout is where it’s at. This retired fire lookout near Index stands 67 feet high, giving you a panoramic scene of forest and snow-capped peaks. It’s a short and semi-steep hike right off Highway 2—just enough effort to feel rewarding without being way out there.
The tower itself is simple (cots, a small table, and windows on all sides), but the scenery makes it more than worth it. Nights can get chilly, even in summer, so pack warm layers.
This stay books up fast, so grab a reservation on Recreation.gov as soon as they open!

📍 Lopez Farm Cottages (Lopez Island) – Island Seclusion
Lopez Island is one of my favorite places to hit pause, and this farm stay is perfect for that. Mornings are quiet, and nights are full of stars, and whether you go for a cottage or a tent site, you really can’t go wrong.
Spend your days kayaking, biking, or just embracing “island time” with no rush to be anywhere.
📍 Captain Green’s Cabin (Copalis Beach) – Hidden Coastal Retreat
Captain Green’s Cabin looks like something out of an old sailor’s tale. Snuggled up in the dunes of Copalis Beach, this cabin has a salty, timeworn charm that’s hard to find. Trust me, this cabin books quickly.
The coastal feel isn’t just outside—it’s in every detail. This cabin has amazing natural light, warm decor, a wood stove, and driftwood furniture with a nautical vibe. If falling asleep to crashing waves and stepping straight onto the sand for a morning walk sounds like your kind of thing, book this spot.
📍 Cozy Cottage by the Sea (Langley) – Puget Sound Views
This cottage in Langley sits in the perfect spot with beautiful views. The moment you pull into the driveway, you’ll feel the peaceful atmosphere and notice the immaculate grounds.
Inside Cozy Cottage, you’ll find modern appliances, a private deck overlooking the water, and a welcoming, homey feel. The yard is perfect for soaking up the sun, and if a romantic getaway is what you’re after, this is the spot for you.
For anyone who is gluten-free, Jupiter Coffee is a must. Their GF treats are top-notch—my personal favorites are the blueberry peach scone and the marionberry scone.

📍 Bavarian Lodge (Leavenworth) – European-Style Mountain Stay
Leavenworth is a great spot to visit any time of year—summer hikes, Oktoberfest in the fall, holiday lights in winter, and smaller crowds with fun festivals in the spring.
The Bavarian Lodge leans into that unique feel even more. With wood-beamed rooms, fireplaces, and mountain views, it has a distinct Bavarian-style mountain village vibe, and where else in Washington does it feel like this? There is a reason this lodge is one cool and unique place to stay in Washington.
The area is loaded with hiking trails, scenic lakes, and mountain biking routes… oh, and plenty of good beer and bratwursts too.

📍 Paradise Village (Ashford) – Ukrainian-Style Lodging Near Rainier
Paradise Village is one of the unique places to stay in Washington for its cool Ukrainian twist. I love the vibe of the rooms in this lodge. On the outside, it sort of feels like you are about to walk into a Ranger Station. When you walk through the doors, the inside is modern, outdoorsy, and rustic.
The views are stunning, and when you step out the front door, you will more than likely see Elk roaming around. Keep an eye out for Elk, and remember to respect wildlife and give them distance.
There’s an on-site Eastern European bakery serving up pierogies and crepes, and the restaurant has gluten-free and vegetarian options.
It’s the perfect base for hitting the mountain early, and after a long day of hiking, spend some time in the hot tub for the best relaxation.
📍 Cozy WA Log Cabin (Castle Rock) – Riverside Retreat
The moment that I saw this cabin, I had to reserve a stay. Cozy Washington Log Cabin is right on the river with gorgeous views, all to yourself. There are so many features of this property that sold me.
Let’s start with outside. When you stand on the big porch overlooking the river, lounge in the hammock swing, or sit by the fire table, it’s one of those “life issss goooood” moments. You know what I mean? Down the stairs and next to the river, you’ll find a hot tub and a cozy fire pit. Inside, think about what a log cabin feels like: rustic and homey. This stay nails the true log cabin experience.
The hummingbirds, bald eagles, and other wildlife adventure around. Great fishing on the river. Plus, if you’re planning a hike on Mt. St. Helens, it’s about a 10-minute drive. Perfect for a trip for two to four, with hosts that make sure your stay is just as good as the setting.

📍 Twisp River Suites (Twisp) – Riverside Getaway
These suites are one of Washington’s best-kept secrets when it comes to unique places to stay. The location is a big selling point, with the Twisp River a stone’s throw away, a great place to relax on hot summer days (highly recommend bringing an inner tube).
Twisp River Suites have private, screened-in porches with porch swings, providing the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the soothing sounds of the river. Inside, you’ll find spacious accommodations equipped with full kitchens, cozy fireplaces, and dreamy memory-foam mattresses.
Hospitality and attention to detail are important to the staff, and they do an awesome job. Even the complimentary breakfast is homemade, featuring homemade quiche, granola, and freshly ground local Blue Star coffee. If you are someone who loves to cross-country ski or hike, check this stay out!
📍 Suncadia (Cle Elum) – Mountain Resort Escape
Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum is a solid spot if you want mountain views with all the comforts. The 6,400-acre property has plenty to do—golf, ski, hit the spa, or just hang out by the fire with a drink in hand.
The rooms are cozy, the beds will make you never want to get up, and the pool area is a favorite—especially with the evening’s s’mores setup. There are miles of trails, and on a clear night, the stargazing is top-notch. It’s not a remote cabin in the woods, but if you’re looking for a mix of outdoorsy and easy, this place nails it.

📍 Posthotel (Leavenworth) – Adults-Only Alpine Luxury
Posthotel is easily one of the most relaxing places I’ve ever stayed. It’s adults-only, right in downtown Leavenworth, aka the Bavarian Village of Washington State. No TVs, no rush—just saltwater pools, saunas, and steam rooms that make it way too easy to spend all day in a robe.
The beds are ridiculously comfortable, and if you can, book a room with a fireplace and a river view. Breakfast is included, and it’s tasty—fresh pastries, smoked salmon, espresso, and all the good stuff. It’s quiet, peaceful, and the perfect place to unwind after a long hike… or just do absolutely nothing.
Heads up: Weekends and December have a two-night minimum, and it’s 18+ only.
