If you’re researching what to wear in Switzerland (especially in the fall), this post will help you navigate what clothing you need.

No matter what time of year you choose to visit Switzerland, it’s a beautiful destination to explore. If you enjoy warm sunny days shopping, cooler days hiking, or snowy days skiing, Switzerland has something to offer for any kind of traveler.

While I was visiting Switzerland, I noticed that it is a generally laid-back country. I will tell you that I did dress nicer than I do back at home in the US. Given, a lot of time at home I am typically in athletic clothes.

    • Temperature: Gradual warming from around 5°C to 15°C (41°F to 59°F) in March to 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F) in May.
    • Precipitation: Rain showers are common, especially in April and May. Snow may still be present in higher elevations in March.

    🌞 Summer (June to August):

    • Temperature: Warm to hot, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) in lower altitudes, and cooler temperatures in the mountains.
    • Precipitation: Generally drier, with occasional thunderstorms in the afternoons.

    • Temperature: Gradual cooling, with September averaging 15°C to 20°C (59°F to 68°F) and November cooling down to 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F).
    • Precipitation: September and October can have moderate rainfall; November tends to be cooler and drier, with possible early snowfall in higher elevations.

    • Temperature: Cold, with temperatures often below freezing, especially in January and February.
    • Precipitation: Snowfall is common, particularly in the Alps and higher elevations.
