If you are visiting Iceland and wondering “Is Dynjandi waterfall worth it?”. Yes, it absolutely is!
Dynjandi (also known as Fjallfoss) waterfall is located next to a bay in the Westfjords of Iceland. This landscape gives views of the ocean, cliffs, and the largest waterfall in the area, thundering water at 100m high.
A trip to Iceland wouldn’t be the same without visiting the beautiful Dynjandi waterfall.
Is Dynjandi Waterfall Worth It?
As the most impressive waterfall in Iceland, Dynjandi is worth the trip. Sure, there are a lot of waterfalls in Iceland, but this hidden gem is my absolute favorite!
Dynjandi waterfall feels like being immersed into an entire other world. When you see it, you’ll understand why.
There are actually 7 waterfalls that together create one. There is a reason it’s called the Jewel of the Westfjords.
Traveler’s Tip: While visiting Iceland you will quickly notice how many people are at the “hot” spots and waterfalls.
The amount of tourists in this region is a lot less than other waterfalls closer to Reykjavik.
Dyjandi is a place to step away from the overwhelming amount of people and into tranquility.
Visiting Dynjandi Waterfall
While visiting Dynjandi, the largest waterfall in the Westfjords, I’d recommend spending at least an hour and a half there.
Since the drive is almost 5 hours away from Reykavik, staying for longer and really taking in the entire waterfall and overall scenary is worth it.
I wouldn’t recommend driving that long just to tick off a bucket list box.

There is no entrance fee at Dynjandi.
Note: Part of Road 60 is a gravel road, and is in good condition. It is easy to drive on, however, please drive slowly and be careful.
Dynjandi Waterfall Hike:
The waterfall hike on the trail is fairly easy and only takes around 15 minutes to complete.
Is it Easily Accessible?
The rocks on the path get very slippery from the water. It is recommended to stay at the lower waterfalls for those who struggle with stability or have another type of restriction.
Traveler’s Tip: The power of this waterfall may give off a mist when you are closer. Please keep a safe distance to be same from the waterfall.
How to Get to Dynjandi Waterfall
There are two ways to reach Dynjandi: by car or by tour.
Iceland does have public transit, but none will get you close to Dynjandi. They operate on unideal schedules for visitors in that region.
Traveler’s Tip: If you’re looking to travel Iceland in a camper van, I HIGHLY recommend renting from HappyCampers. Their customer service is amazing, the van was clean, and they made me one “happy camper”!
✅ Car Rental:
The easiest way to get around Iceland is to rent a car, this is especially true if you are visiting the semi-remote Westfjords.
Since many of the attractions are spread throughout the country, it makes the most sense to rent a car.
Rental cars or vans may look expensive up front, but you’ll save money if you choose this option due to guided tours being even more expensive.
✅ Tours:
If you are staying in the Reykjavik area, flying up north is one option for a tour. Flights from Reykjavik to Isafjordur operate regularly and only take about 40-45 minutes.
When you land in Isafjordur, the starting point for one of the most beautiful tours is at the port where you will land.
A tour bus will await your arrival where you will then travel through mountain tunnels and fjords.

How Long Does it Take to Drive to the West Fjords from Reykjavik?
Starting at Reykjavik, the drive to Dynjandi takes approximately 4 hours and 47 minutes.
It will be an all-day excursion to visit, however, photos don’t do justice to how memorizing the scenic drive is. The drive is worth it.
I believe that this is one of the most beautiful parts of Iceland.
What are the Road Conditions?
Visiting during the summer is promising for roads to be accessible and safer to travel.
However, if you visit in late spring or early fall, there will be fewer tourists, and tours/accommodations will be budget-friendly.
Traveler’s Tip: The road to Dynjandi closes during the winter due to unfavorable conditions.
It varies by year, but typically closes in October (late fall) and opens again in April (early spring) due to snowfall.

Traveler’s Tip: Pack your bathing suit! Pollurinn Hot Spring is located just outside Talknafjordur village, on the way to Dynjandi.
