Accommodations in Vik Iceland

It’s exciting to start to plan a trip and look at all of the different places to stay. For some, finding accommodations that are within a reasonable budget is a must. For others, finding that luxury hotel fulfills a trip.

Vik was one of my favorite places to stay. The natural beauty, oceanfront, and green hills made me never want to leave.

What Types of Accommodations Does Iceland Have?

Iceland has hotels, Airbnbs, campgrounds, Vrbos, and hostels. Most reviews and Reddit threads show Iceland as being an expensive country to visit. I would argue those viewpoints to a degree.

Any trip can be more expensive or budgeted if you are mindful about spending. When traveling, most tourists stop in cities and more populated areas. These cities are usually more expensive due to the nature of the city…being a city. Traveling in the United States is the same, if you go to New York, Seattle, or Austin, it will be more expensive.

Best Resaraunts in Vik

I’ll be honest: I wasn’t exactly thinking of the food when I planned my trip to Iceland. Destinations like Italy, Thailand, Mexico, and other foodie countries typically have some excitement about food. Iceland was not on that list for me.

Iceland proved me wrong.

I had the best soup I have ever had at The Soup Company (with vegan and gluten-free options available).

I had some of the best macaroons from Artic Macarons (sold at The Soup Company and Black Crust Pizzeria). These flavors weren’t the normal ones I was used to, and I am glad that they were more unique!

Gluten-free friends, I know you understand the struggle to find tasty pizza. Look no further if you visit Black Crust Pizzeria. Not only does this restaurant have delicious gluten-free pizza, but they also have vegan options too. The variety of pizzas will not disappoint.

Is Iceland Worth Visting?

Iceland may be more expensive compared to some other destinations. However, while you are visiting Iceland, you will find the unique experiences and natural wonders well worth the visit.

Personal preferences and interests play a significant role in choosing destinations and activities. Consider what aspects of Iceland’s offerings align with your travel preferences.

Pictures of Iceland don’t do it justice, below is another article on why Iceland is worth visiting.

What Currency Does Iceland Use?

When booking accommodations or tours out of the country, please don’t make the mistake I have. I have been stunned by how cheap…or how pricy certain tours, hotels, etc. are…to realize I am looking in an entirely other currency.

Iceland uses the Icelandic Krรณna (ISK) as its official currency. The currency code for the Icelandic Krรณna is ISK, and it is often symbolized as “kr.” Exchange rates may fluctuate, so it’s a good idea to check for the latest rates if you plan on exchanging currency for your visit to Iceland.

Best Time to Visit Iceland

The best time depends on your preferences and the activities that you want to pursue. Here are some considerations for different seasons:

Summer (June to August)

โญ Midnight Sun
โญ Accessible Highlands
โญ Warmer Weather

Fall (September to October)

โญ Fewer Tourists
โญ Northern Lights
โญ Fall Colors

Winter (November to March)

โญ Less Crowded
โญ Winter Activities/Sports
โญ Northern Lights

Spring (April to May)

โญ Observing Wildlife
โญ Milder Weather
โญ Lupines

Iceland’s weather can be unpredictable. With that being said, check weather conditions and road conditions before and/or during your trip. Each season offers a different type of experience and if you can’t decide which season to go, you can always go back again. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Traveling Around Iceland

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ธ Public Transportation: Iceland has a public bus system that will connect different towns and cities. This is beneficial for those who don’t want to drive or might not be able to. Before you travel, double-check if these routes will get you to the destinations you want. Some of the schedules can vary, especially in more remote areas so check those out beforehand.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ธ Car Rental: The most popular way to explore Iceland. The country has well-maintained roads and having a car provides flexibility to visit remote areas and enjoy the scenic landscapes at your own pace. Depending on the time of the year, some areas will require a 4WD vehicle.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ธ Guided Tours: Not typically a way to think about transportation, but guided tours are a phenomenal way to discover more of Iceland and have fun at the same time. There are tours for specific activities such as glacier hiking, whale watching, and Northern Lights excursions. Group tours can provide insights from knowledgeable guides.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ธ Camper Van: A great way to knock off a way to scoot around Iceland with the luxury of having your accommodations at the same time. My favorite way to explore different areas and have ultimate flexibility is to camp in different areas.
